Working from home

The clothes we wear at home have an impact on our mindset. The way you present yourself, even behind closed doors, will set the tone for the day. It’s important to retain the same level of motivation and focus even when working from home and that begins with the choice you make first thing in the morning. It’s tempting to dress in loungewear or active wear, especially if you plan to take exercise, but that can undermine your confidence. It’s unlikely you will relish face-to-face interaction and as a result can feel a sense of unease. Much better to dress with comfort in mind, but with a more professional approach.

dresses are easy

Always give yourself enough time to get dressed properly in the morning. Try to retain the same structure as a normal work day and be ready to start on time. If it helps, lay your clothes out the night before so you don’t have to think. Creating a uniform for working at home can be helpful. Smart joggers, a loose-fitting shirt and knitwear worn with stylish trainers can still feel comfortable but will make you feel more competent. Choose colours that enhance your appearance on screen. The smart casual dress code is the benchmark to follow. Find a style that works for you and repeat the look each day with minimal variation. Make it easy for yourself. When it’s time to leave the office make a point of changing. Creating a difference between a work day wardrobe and downtime will help you switch off in the evening. Now is the time to put on that well-loved item of loungewear to relax in.
