During these dark winter months, retreat inside and take advantage of the numerous activities available indoors. I like to visit galleries and museums in London at this time of year. Hours can be lost wandering through inspiring exhibitions. Images and paintings can transport you to another world. And as Winter draws to a close there is the promise of Spring in the air. Retailers begin the fill their stores with new stock. February is a time for saving, planning and observing; a time to think about what you already have and what you may need. An opportunity to pause.
Being Cultural
‘Picasso and Paper’ (Royal Academy, 25 Jan – 13 Apr 2020) is an exhibition of works by this infamous artist that shows his lifelong fascination with paper. He uses various types in numerous formats, transforming and manipulating this medium to create inventive works of art that influence his painting. This substantial exhibition is presented in an easy to follow arrangement making it an inspiring and relaxing day out, even if you’re not an admirer.
Taking exercise indoors
If you like shopping, as I do, then there can be no better way to stretch your legs. A visit to a large retail outlet, such as Westfield, London, can see you walking 5km with little or no effort. February is a great time to go as the new season clothes and homeware start to filter into stores. I always like to spend time in my favourite retailers establishing the key trends and identifying the looks that will suit me and my home best.

Relaxing at home
When the weather is at its worst its best to give in to those feelings of discontent and acknowledge it is a time to hibernate and recharge. Retreat and find comfort in the simple pleasures. Find yourself a well-lit comfortable chair, a table for refreshments and a blanket for the dog. Pick up a book and escape. These moments are a gift and should be savoured.
