When we’re forced to stay home for the common good, it’s hard to imagine ever travelling again. The idea of a holiday is an abstract concept and one we don’t expect to be able to do for some time. Instead it is a time for reflection; a time to look back and savour the many treasured moments we’ve had in the past. For the first time in a long time we have been given the most precious of gifts; time. We can use this juncture wisely to record those memories, be they pictures on the wall or a photo book to reflect on.
creating a photo book
Before the world came to a stand-still I had a relaxing weekend away with a dear friend at Heckfield Place in Hampshire. We were celebrating a birthday and taking the opportunity to spend quality time together; a rare treat. It was a hotel that had been on my design radar for some time and, as we both work in that industry, felt we should experience it together to see what all the fuss was about. It didn’t disappoint.
Heckfield Place is an elegant Georgian family home that has been lovingly restored to become a luxury hotel set in acres of woodland. We stayed for one night but arrived in time for breakfast to make the most of our stay. We were lucky. The sunshine streamed in through the magnificent floor to ceiling windows in the conservatory as we ate our seasonal brunch, sourced from their Home farm and kitchen garden. From the very start the staff were noticeably helpful and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. We made the most of our stay and indulged in a spa treatment, spent endless hours reading in their sumptuous lounges, toured the magnificent grounds and drank botanical gins in their late night bar. Spoilt for photographic opportunities I took many inspirational images which lent themselves to creating a book.
I spent a productive morning soon after I returned and generated a photo book. Using photobox.co.uk, I followed an established format and amended it to suit my images. Surprisingly easy to use, I was able to create a beautiful coffee table book full of special memories.
